UM
offers part-time programmes for working community
Upgrading knowledge, creativity and innovation as
well as nurturing a ‘first-class mindset’ is
core in ensuring the success of the Ninth Malaysian
Plan. In line with the national aspiration, the
University of Malaya (UM) consistently strives to
produce scholars in diverse fields. In its pursuit
to the aspiration, the University continues to be
actively involved in conducting researches in
different fields and to develop the knowledge and
skills of its graduates through the delivery of
various quality programmes.
UM
does not only provide educational opportunities for
school leavers but also for the working community in
every sector and industry. For that purpose, the
establishment of the University of Malaya Centre for
Continuing Education (UMCCed) in 1998 may be seen as
an accomplishment for UM in its effort to encourage
more working adults to further their studies and to
continuously enhance their knowledge and skills.
The establishment of UMCCed was in fact a platform
for the University of Malaya to offer its expertise
to corporate sector personnels as well as individual
entrepreneurs. This is achieved through delivering
various educational and training programmes at the
executive and professional diploma and certificate
levels as well as short courses. In addition, UMCCed
also provides professional services in event
management as well as facilitating study tours at an
international level.
According to the Director of UMCCed, Assoc. Prof.
Dr. Abdul Latif Salleh, “Each training programme
offered has been designed and developed according to
the needs and requirements of current job market.”
Dr. Abdul Latif added that the UMCCed has a proven
record as a renowned training provider in the
country by its achievement in producing more than
11,000 graduates from among the working adults at
the executive diploma level in numerous fields. Many
of these graduates have achieved remarkable success
either in career advancement or in furthering their
studies to a higher level.

He
continued, “This accomplishment also shows the
trust, confidence and recognition of the corporate
sector towards the capability of this centre in
contributing to the improvement of Malaysian
workforce” Currently, most of the programmes being
offered by the UMCCed are at the certificate and
Diploma levels. However, as an extension to the
existing programmes, UMCCed is moving another step
forward to offer part-time programmes at the first
degree level. Beginning this year, UMCCed will be
offering the Bachelor’s Degree in Business
Administration (External) programme in conjunction
with the Faculty of Business and Accountancy,
University of Malaya.
“Offering these programmes fits into the concept
of lifelong learning which we champion and
indirectly provides graduates of the executive and
professional diploma with pathways to a higher level
education,” expressed Dr. Abdul Latif.
UMCCed welcome and invite all qualified and
interested individuals to enrol in the Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration (External)
part-time programme which will tentatively begin in
