Malay Language Proficiency Programme (Basic)


The Malay Language Proficiency Programme is designed to train participants to become proficient in the basic communication of the Malay Language. It is also for Malaysian locals, Expatriates and foreign students studying in Malaysia who wish to improve their Malay proficiency.

Course Objectives

  • Converse with confidence using simple language
  • Read and understand short and simple texts
  • Understand basic communication of the Malay Language
  • Understand information delivered in the Malay Language and in turn provide feedback
  • Write short sentences in simple language using specific words
  • Interact with peers regarding daily matters and work
  • Read and understand simple and short excerpts from books, magazines and newspapers

Course Content

Participants will be exposed to elements of grammar, numbers, names of the days, time markers, prepositions, reading simple text, understanding the meaning of words, answering comprehension questions, writing short sentences, and simple paragraphs.

Who should Attend

Expatriates, foreign Students and Malaysian resided or studied abroad.

Training Methodology

Discussions, role play, practice sessions, lectures, presentation, simulations, etc.

Assessment Methods

  • Continuous Assessment: 60% (Exercise, Homework and Tests)
  • Final Examination: 40% (Listening + Speaking + Reading + Writing)

Awarding of Certificate

The certificate will be awarded by University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education upon successful completion of the course

  • RM 1272.00 (including GST)

Application Procedures

Application must be made through the prescribed form, which may be obtained from UMCCed office or can be downloaded here.

A complete application should consist of the following items:

A complete, signed application form with 2 passport size photograph
Copy of Identification Card / Passport
