Hanban is the executive body of the Chinese
Language Council International, a non-government and non-profit organisation affiliated to China's Ministry of Education. Hanban was established in 1987 and is committed to making Chinese language and culture teaching resources and services available to the world, as well as meeting the demands of overseas Chinese learners and contributing to the formation of a world of cultural diversity and harmony.

Founded in Yan’an in 1941, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is China’s first institution specializing in foreign language studies. BFSU is one of the key universities directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People’s Republic of China. Excellence in foreign language teaching has allowed BFSU to enjoy a good reputation for quality programs boasting rapid development in teaching and research activities. |

About KZI-UM
KONG ZI INSTITUTE FOR THE TEACHING OF CHINESE LANGUAGE
The KZI-UM or internationally known as Confucius Institute was set up to promote Chinese language learning and teaching and the understanding of the Chinese culture in Malaysia.
Set up under an agreement between Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International) and University of Malaya in June 2009, KZI-UM offers courses and engages in various activities by drawing upon the expertise and resources of its partner institutions - Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) in Beijing. Hence, the KZI-UM instructors are all nationals of the Peoples Republic of China who have been accredited by Hanban.
The services offered by KZI-UM include: Chinese language teaching; training Chinese language instructors and providing Chinese language teaching resources; holding the HSK examination (Chinese Proficiency Test) and tests for the Certification of the Chinese Language Teachers; providing information and consultative services concerning China’s education, culture, and so forth; and conducting language and cultural exchange activities between China and other countries.
In the period up to October 2009, a total of 523 Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms have been established in 87 countries and regions over the world; among which 282 are Confucius Institutes in 84 countries.
