Master of Public Policy

The program is designed for highly talented and highly motivated students who want to pursue a career in the public sector, non-profit-organisations or private businesses, whether on the local, regional, national or international level. The interdisciplinary program equips candidates with the scientific knowledge and practical experience they will need to advance the public interest by making policy decisions on a rational basis and by implementing policy programs effectively. The structure of the curriculum of the MPP at INPUMA is:

Interdisciplinary

To be able to comprehend the complexity of modern political processes and to take part in their design. Candidates will be exposed to interdisciplinary education, especially in economics, law and political science, taught by faculty members from various departments within the university and outside the University of Malaya.

Practice-related

Courses are taught with an eye on practical examples and real-world problems - some of them are taught by experts with practical experience.

International

The curriculum of the MPP programme meets international standards. English is the main working language. Candidates and lecturers from Malaysia and all over the world will learn and work together.

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

SPECIAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field with minimum CGPA 3.0 or its equivalent.

A minimum score of Band 5.5 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic);

OR

A score of Band 4 and above in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET);

OR

A Grade C and above in English for General Certificate of Education (A Level), University of Cambridge;

OR

A minimum score of 550 for Paper-based Test (PBT), a score of 213 for Computer Based Test (CBT) or a score of 80 for Internet-based Test (IBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL);

OR 

A score of 42 and above in the Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic);

OR

A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: First (FCE);

OR

A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Advanced (CAE);

OR

A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Proficiency (CPE).

Note: A score which according to the programme standard respectively if it is higher than the score for IETLS and TOEFL. For any programme standard which states that the TOELF or IELTS (Academic) score to be lower than what had been constituted by the University, these programmes have to follow the minimum score set by the University.

Exemption may be granted to:

  • Those applicants that originated from a country that uses the English Language as the National Language.
  • Those applicants that possessed an Academic Qualification from an institution that uses the English Language fully as the medium of instruction.
  • Those applicants that further their studies in Malaysia and planning to pursue their studies to a higher level and subject to requirement in number two (2).
  • A Bachelor’s degree from recognized Institutions with the least a CGPA of 3.00
  • Applicant may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selection programme before being accepted by the respective faculty
  • A Minimum Score of Band 5.5 For The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic); OR
  • A minimum score of 550 for Paper-based Total (PBT), a score of 213 for Computer- Based Total (CBT) or a score of 80 for Internet-based Total (iBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); OR
