Tamil is a classical language which is widely spoken by 77 million people throughout the world. It is the main source of language for the Dravidian family languages from which Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu flourished. It has a very long history of evolution alongside Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, Hebrew, Arabic and Chinese, which are the other classical languages of the world.
