Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is a very broad field; hence mechanical engineers can work in a variety of different industries as well as design a wide range of products. Mechanical engineers develop, design, build, test, and inspect mechanical devices and systems, such as machines, tools, and engines. Mechanical engineers often work on the newest industrial pursuits, particularly in automation and robotics, alternative energies and nanotechnology.

The Mechanical Engineering Programme offers new opportunities for occupational growth, such as designing production projects to harness developments, improvements of technology in healthcare, or designing more powerful computer chips for the ever-growing digital era. The wide career spectrum opens up opportunities for different genders, different levels of ability, and different interests. The key is that the Mechanical Engineering Programme develops a skilled personnel with competent technical and analytical skills that could be of good use wherever needed.

General Entry Requirements

Pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject

or
A credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July papers and pass in History (SPM 2013 and above);

and
Achieve a minimum Band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) as required in special requirements of the programme.

and
Have fulfilled all special requirements of the programme as may be prescribed by the Senate

Special Entry Requirements

STPM

(Current Year)

Pass STPM with at least CGPA 3.00 and obtained Gred B in the

following subjects:

Mathematics (T); and
Physics;

and
Obtained at least Gred B in any one (1) of the following subjects:

Biology;
Chemistry;
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

and
Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

MATRICULATION FOUNDATION

(Current Year)

Pass Government Matriculation /UM Foundation of Science/or

Foundation from other institutions that is recognized by the Government and University Senate and obtain at least CGPA 3.00 and Gred B in two (2) the following subjects:

Mathematics; and
Physics/Engineering Physics

and
Obtained at least Gred B in any one (1) of the following subjects:

Biology;
Chemistry/Engineering Chemistry;
Computer Science/Computing;

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

and
Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

DIPLOMA / EQUIVALENT

REQUIREMENT 1

Obtained a Diploma that is recognized by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate. The applicants must have a Diploma in the same field related to the engineering programme applied with at least CGPA 3.50;

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

and
Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

OR

REQUIREMENT 2

Pass STPM not in current year with at least CGPA 3.00 and obtained Gred B in the following subjects:

Mathematics (T); and
Physics;

and
Obtained at least Gred B in any one (1) of the following subjects:

Biology;
Chemistry;
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

and
Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

OR

REQUIREMENT 3

Pass Government Matriculation /UM Foundation of Science/or Foundation not in current year from other institutions that is recognized by the Government and University Senate and obtain at least CGPA 3.00 and Gred B in the following subjects:

Mathematics; and
Physics/Engineering Physics

and
Obtained at least Gred B in any one (1) of the following subjects:

Biology;
Chemistry/Engineering Chemistry;
Computer Science/Computing;

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

and
Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Science Stream

REQUIREMENT 1

Pass the GCE A-Level with at least Grade B in the following subjects:

Mathematics; and
Physics;

and
Obtained at least Gred B in any one (1) of the following subjects:

Further Mathematics;
Chemistry;
Biology

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

Obtained at least Band 4.5 in IELTS (Academic);

or
Obtained score of at least 477 points (PBT) / 153 points (CBT) / 53 points (IBT) in TOEFL;

and
Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

NOTE: Candidates may apply using Advanced Subsidiary (AS) examination results. A-Level examination results should be submitted later once it has been obtained.

OR

REQUIREMENT 2

Possess the Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) rank of 70 percent (%) and a minimum score of 16 points (High Achievement) in the following subjects:

Mathematics; and
Physics;

and
Obtained 16 points (High Achievement) in one (1) of the following subjects:

Chemistry;
Biology;
Mathematics;

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

Obtained at least Band 4.5 in IELTS (Academic);

or
Obtained score of at least 477 points (PBT) / 153 points (CBT) / 53 points (IBT) in TOEFL;

REQUIREMENT 3

Possess the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) with a minimum score of 30 Point and a minimum grade 4 (Higher Level) in following subjects:

Mathematics; and
Physics

and
Obtained at least Grade 4 (Higher Level) in one (1) of the following subjects:

Further Mathematics;
Chemistry;
Biology

and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application
