Bachelor of Tamil Language and Linguistics

Tamil is a classical language which is widely spoken by 77 million people throughout the world. It is the main source of language for the Dravidian family languages from which Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu flourished. It has a very long history of evolution alongside Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, Hebrew, Arabic and Chinese, which are the other classical languages of the world. The programme offered at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics is a unique programme of its kind. The curriculum is designed to equip the students with an in-depth knowledge on the richness of the language and its linguistic functionality in the modern era. The curriculum also emphasizes 21st century skills such as Higher Order Thinking and Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills which are blended with language proficiency.

General Entry Requirements

Pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject

or
A credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July papers and pass in History (SPM 2013 and above);

and
Achieve a minimum Band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) as required in special requirements of the programme.

and
Have fulfilled all special requirements of the programme as may be prescribed by the Senate.
