Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

The University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP) is a five-year professional undergraduate medical degree offering you clinical experience, research opportunities and elective placements.  On successful completion of the programme, you will be conferred Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.

Our programme will provide you with current best practice in medical education, high teacher- student ratios and extensive educational support. The graduate of this MBBS Programme will be a medical practitioner who is responsive to the health needs of individuals, families, and the society at large. The graduate will also be committed to improve the health care system at all levels.

The UMMP is centred on nurturing fresh insights through innovative educational approaches that foster interdisciplinary discovery.  We also believe that by providing early and sustained clinical experience with essential communication skill give students confidence and the comfort level to excel in their duties during the clinical practice years and beyond.

To aid in the teaching and learning of our students, University Malaya has a large teaching hospital, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). This teaching hospital has more than 1000 beds and more than 1 million patients annually, giving our students ample opportunities to practise the art of Medicine in a safe and supervised environment. UMMC is adjacent and physically connected to the Faculty of Medicine, creating a large complex dedicated to teaching, learning, research, and health care.
The UMMP through all five years comprises of 4 broad themes:  Basic and Clinical sciences, Patient and Doctor, Population Medicine, and Personal and Professional Development. In Stages 1 and 2, students work through several System Blocks that cover all body systems from both basic science and clinical perspectives, with an emphasis on understanding the scientific foundations of clinical reasoning and clinical practice. In Stages 3 (Stage 3.1, Stage 3.2, and Stage 3.3) of the programme, students cover all major aspects of clinical medicine.
This programme is open to Malaysian applicants.
Entry Requirements

STPM (Current Year)

Science Stream

Passed the STPM with at least CGPA 3.80;
and
Obtained at least Grade A in two (2) subjects and Grade A- in one (1) subject at the STPM level with the combination of following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics(M)/Mathematics (T)

and
Obtained at least Grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • English

and
Obtained at least Level 4 (Band 4) in MUET
and
Obtain the BMAT (Malaysia) test results for the current or previous year, according to the level set by the Faculty or any admission test to the programme approved by the Senate
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:
Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

 

MATRICULATION / FOUNDATION (Current Year)

Science Stream

Passed the Matriculation/ Foundation with at least CGPA 3.80;
and
Obtained at least Grade A in two (2) subjects and Grade A- in one (1) subject at the Matriculation/ Foundation level with the combination of following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics

and
Obtained at least Grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • English

and
Obtained at least Level 4 (Band 4) in MUET
and
Obtain the BMAT (Malaysia) test results for the current or previous year, according to the level set by the Faculty or any admission test to the programme approved by the Senate

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Science Stream

REQUIREMENT 1

Passed the GCE A-Level with at least Grade A in any three (3) of the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics

and
Obtained at least Grade A- at the SPM level in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • English

and
Obtained at least Band 4 in MUET. However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one academic session:

  • Obtained at least Band 6.0 in IELTS (Academic); or
  • Obtained score of at least 547 points (PBT) / 210 points (CBT) / 78 points (IBT) in TOEFL

and
Obtain the BMAT (Malaysia) test results for the current year, according to the level set by the Faculty or any admission test to the programme approved by the Senate;
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

NOTE: Candidates may apply using Advanced Subsidiary (AS) examination results. A-Level examination results should be submitted later once it has been obtained.

REQUIREMENT 2

Possess the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) with a minimum score of 36 points and a minimum grade 6 (Higher Level) in two (2) subjects and grade 6 (Standard Level) in one (1) subject with the following combination of subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics

and
Obtained at least Grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • English

and
Obtained at least Band 4 in MUET. However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one academic session:

  • Obtained at least Band 6.0 in IELTS (Academic); or
  • Obtained score of at least 547 points (PBT) / 210 points (CBT) / 78 points (IBT) in TOEFL;

and

Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Applied Science from any institution recognized by the Senate with at least CGPA 3.70;
and
Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM level in five (5) subjects as follows:

  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • English

and
Obtained at least Band 4 in MUET. However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfiling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

  • Obtained at least Band 6.0 in IELTS (Academic); or
  • Obtained score of at least 547 points (PBT) / 210 points (CBT) / 78 points (IBT) in TOEFL;

and
Obtain the BMAT (Malaysia) test results for the current year, according to the level set by the Faculty or any admission test to the programme approved by the Senate
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:
