The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) degree programme that is offered by the University of Malaya holds true to the following philosophy, which is in line with the nation’s requirements:

  • The programme offers a broad-based curriculum and training with opportunities for specialisation. The programme supports evidence-based practices and consists of dynamic characteristics with room for future advancement.

 

Programme Principles

In line with the programme philosophy, the programme offered is based on the following principles:

  • The basic training given is broad-based and encompasses all aspects of the pharmacy practice, from pharmaceutical sciences to its application in the field of clinical pharmacy.
  • The programme utilises interactive teaching methods and incorporates evidence-based practices in an effort to promote critical thinking and analysis in all the taught disciplines.
  • The education provided is dynamic and farsighted to equip the graduates to face current and future challenges.
  • Emphasis is given on basic communication and thinking skills as well as the benefits of modern communication technology.
  • The training encompasses the importance of patient/customer-oriented therapy as well as uses a multi-disciplinary approach to deliver effective and efficient healthcare services.
Entry Requirements

STPM (Current Year)

Science Stream

Passed the STPM with at least CGPA 3.80;
and
Obtained at least Grade A in two (2) subjects and Grade A- in one (1) subject at the STPM level with the combination of following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics T/ Mathematics M

and
Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics;
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics;
  • English; and
  • Any one (1) from other subject

and
Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

  • Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

MATRICULATION / FOUNDATION (Current Year)

Science Stream
Passed the Matriculation/ Foundation with at least CGPA 3.80;
and
Obtained at least Grade A in two (2) subjects and Grade A- in one (1) subject at the Matriculation/ Foundation level with the combination of following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics

and
Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics;
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics;
  • English; and
  • Any one (1) from other subject

and
Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

  • Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

DIPLOMA / EQUIVALENT

Science Stream

Possess a Diploma in Pharmacy from Public University / other institutions recognized by the Government of Malaysia/Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and approved by the University’s Senate with at least CGPA 3.80;
and
Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics;
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics;
  • English; and
  • Any one (1) from other subject

and
Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

  • Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Science Stream

Passed the GCE A-Level with at least one (1) Grade A and two (2) Grade B in any of the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics/Mathematics;

and
Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics;
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics;
  • English; and
  • Any one (1) from other subject

and
Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET
However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfiling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:
Obtained at least Band 4.5 in IELTS (Academic);
or

Obtained score of at least 477 points (PBT) / 153 points (CBT) / 53 points (IBT) in TOEFL.
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

  • Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

NOTE: Candidates may apply using Advanced Subsidiary (AS) examination results. A-Level examination results should be submitted later once it has been obtained.

OR

REQUIREMENT 2

Bachelor’s Degree in Science from any institution recognized by the Senate with at least CGPA 3.50;
and
Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics;
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics;
  • English; and
  • Any one (1) from other subject

and
Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET
and
Passed the interview
and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

  • Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)
